Rep. Joanne Ferrary Retires from New Mexico House

Over the past decade, Rep. Ferrary has been a champion for our most vulnerable communities, while also fighting to protect New Mexico’s air, land, and water

Santa Fe, N.M. - Today marks the final day of a decade of service in the New Mexico House of Representatives for Representative Joanne Ferrary (D-Las Cruces). The Representative shared her decision not to seek re-election earlier this year and recently announced her July 31 resignation.

Rep. Ferrary entered the legislature in 2017 and has since represented Doña Ana County’s House District 37. Throughout her tenure, she has championed meaningful legislation to expand access to healthcare, uplift working families and vulnerable populations, and protect our environment. Rep. Ferrary has served as Chair of the House Consumer & Public Affairs Committee, Vice Chair of the House Health & Human Services Committee, and as a member of the House Energy, Environment & Natural Resources Committee.

“Rep. Ferrary is an empathetic and values-driven leader, who always stands up for what is right.  From combating elder abuse and animal cruelty, to expanding services for special education students and domestic violence survivors, her work has given voice to the voiceless and vulnerable,” said House Speaker Javier Martínez (D-Albuquerque). “We will greatly miss having our friend and colleague in the House, and we send her our best wishes for a wonderful and fulfilling retirement.”

The Doña Ana County Commission will take applications and appoint a successor to carry out the remainder of Rep. Ferrary’s term, which expires at the end of this year.
