House Dems Condemn Passage of Trump’s Cruel Megabill, Vow to Keep Fighting for New Mexicans

Santa Fe, N.M. - Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a federal budget bill that will kick over 100,000 New Mexicans off their healthcare and reduce food benefits for half a million people across the state. This legislation will make life harder and more expensive for working families throughout the country, all while giving massive tax breaks to the extremely wealthy and adding trillions to the national deficit.

New Mexico House Democrats issued the following statement in response:

“Out-of-touch Republicans in Washington, D.C. just passed the most cruel and backwards bill we have seen in our lifetimes. Their votes make clear that these elected leaders lack the moral courage to fulfill even their most basic responsibilities to their constituents.

Republicans are kicking folks off their healthcare, shuttering our rural hospitals, letting children and seniors go hungry, and raising costs for all working people, in order to please President Trump and line the pockets of his ultra wealthy donors. This legislation will have a devastating impact on families across our country and right here at home.

The good news is that years of strategic investments and smart policymaking have positioned New Mexico better than many states to fight back. So while Republicans in Washington, D.C. betray their promises to our rural communities, seniors, working families, and the American people at large, your New Mexico House Democrats will do everything we can to protect your access to healthcare and other critical services, while continuing our work to make life better and more affordable for you and your family.”
