House Democrats Mourn the Passing of Former Isleta Governor Max Zuni

Santa Fe, NM - Following the news that former Pueblo of Isleta Governor Max Zuni has passed away, New Mexico House Democrats issued the following statement: 

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Governor Zuni, who was a respected champion of Indigenous education, tribal sovereignty, and the preservation of Native history, cultures, and traditions throughout New Mexico. 

Governor Zuni understood the importance of honoring our past, while also investing in our future by engaging, inspiring, and supporting the next generation. 

We are grateful for his service to the Pueblo of Isleta and tribal communities across the state. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.”
